Welcome to the Science Faculty. We are a thriving and successful faculty teaching Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Applied Science throughout the school. Our team comprises of a Head of Faculty, Head of Biology, Head of Chemistry, Head of Physics and Head of Foundation Science as well as 16 other teachers and seven laboratory technicians.

For many years we have also hosted trainee teachers, many of whom have gone on to find positions within this department.

We teach Science in topics in Years 7 and 8 and then Combined Science at GCSE in Years 9 to 11 as well as the single Sciences (GCSE Biology, GCSE Chemistry and GCSE Physics) in Years 10 and 11. In the Sixth Form Biology, Chemistry and Physics are taught at A’ level as well as Level 3 BTEC Applied Science. The numbers of students choosing to take the Sciences in the Sixth Form have grown in the recent past and are currently very high. A large number of our students choose to study Science, Medicine, Engineering and other technical subjects at some of the best universities in the country.

In addition to our taught curriculum, we also offer a range of extra-curricular activities, including the Biology Field Trip, Trip to CERN, lectures from research scientists and a Science Fair.

The aim for the department over the next few years is to encourage students to enjoy Science at all levels and to think about the possibility of a Career involving STEM, through maintaining the high standards already achieved at both GCSE and A’level and continuing to attract large numbers of students at Key Stage 5.
