Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service
We are recruiting for wholetime firefighters, with the application process opening on Monday, 15 July 2019.
The role of a firefighter is varied and as well as responding to a range of incidents, it includes providing fire safety advice and engaging with local communities, through safety advice events, education activities and campaigns.
There isn’t one stereotypical firefighter and we’re keen to encourage people of all backgrounds to apply. Our #OneTeamForBerkshire campaign will highlight the diversity of both people and roles within the Service, all with the shared goal of serving the people of Royal Berkshire.

Entry level Food Science opportunity - Calcot Hub - 180001RV)
On offer: a voyage of discovery. The Sainsbury’s Quality & Innovation team has one mission: do quality better than anyone else.
Please note this field based from our Calcot Hub, Reading, RG31 7SA
We’ve created four purpose-built in-store Centres of Excellence across the UK, where our experts in the Quality Team are responsible for ensuring the quality of all food and non-food products that carry Sainsbury’s name on them.
As our team grows, we’ve created this opportunity for you to start a rewarding career. You’ll learn how we’re making Britain’s groceries taste better than ever. And play an active part in our success.
Join us and you’ll get closer to the products, supply chain and customers than you ever thought possible. And thanks to outstanding training and unique facilities, you’ll change the way that food is created, sold and consumed - for good.
Here’s just one example. We wanted to make strawberries tastier all year round. Selling one punnet every second, we’ve tracked down a strawberry bursting with even more flavour, whatever the weather. Come rain or shine, our strawberries are the juiciest around. That's the kind of change you can be part of here.
You can look forward to a mix of classroom based training and job shadowing, while you take on your first exciting role from day one. Supporting our Quality Technicians, you’ll learn how to carry out analytical testing and product inspections. Investigating anything from strawberries to milk to household cleaning products, you’ll give them the green light - or tell us how they need to be better. You’ll complete a variety of different placements in a range of different places including depots, stores, suppliers’ farms and factories, and our main London laboratory. This will include getting out and about with our Quality Technologists as they audit and investigate suppliers.
And when you’re ready to take a step up, there’s an exciting career path to follow - from Technician, to Technologist and beyond. Wherever you choose to take your career, at Sainsbury’s it’s sure to be an exciting journey. And one that’s defined by the quality of your experiences.
So what are we looking for? You’ll need 2 A Levels at grade B or above, including a science subject. And you’ll need to demonstrate great organisational skills, a keen eye for detail and the determination to complete excellent work. The ability to get on with all sorts of people and work together with them is important, too. You’re a good communicator, both in person and in writing. Crucially, you’re passionate about brilliant food and you really appreciate Sainsbury’s quality.
