The SSAT (Schools, Students and Teachers Network) Educational Outcomes Awards are based on national performance data, drawing on information from the Department for Education and Ofsted. The awards recognise schools where students achieve strong outcomes compared to others across the country. 

This recognition reflects the consistency of teaching, curriculum planning and support across Maiden Erlegh School, and the outcomes students are achieving by the end of Year 11.

Today we celebrate the hard work, achievements, and time our Sixth Form students have spent with us as they receive their exam results. These outcomes reflect years of dedication, determination, and commitment, marking an exciting milestone as our students take the next steps in their journeys. 

We are incredibly proud of our students for representing Maiden Erlegh School with such energy, dedication, and flair.

On Wednesday 16 July, the following Year 7&8 students took part in a charity Swimathon to raise funds for BIBS (Babies in Buscot Support): Henry R 7M3; Julia B 8E1; Elena G 8E3; Seb H 8M5; Ib S 8E2; Josh G 8M1; Henry J 8E4; David K 8M2.

BIBS is a charity that supports babies and their families who are born prematurely or are born ill and require additional support. Their mantra is that they ‘save tiny lives’.  Henry J in Year 8 received this support when he was born after struggling to breathe for the first 10 minutes of his life.  His mum is now one of the Fundraising Managers for Buscot and was our link to the charity.  She kindly came down to support and provided medals for all the participants.

As a team, they have already raised in excess of £1,000 for this incredibly worthy cause!  I wanted to pass on their thanks to the staff who have kindly supported them and their efforts with donations.  They have set themselves a target of £1,500 and are doing one final push on the fundraising, so if anyone would like to donate, please do so on this link: https://www.justgiving.com/campaign/maidenerleghswimathon2025?utm_medium=CA&utm_source=CL

Wokingham Lions & BIBS were both very complimentary of them and were hugely appreciative of them being involved.

Maiden Erlegh School was recognised in two categories, receiving awards for being in the top 20% of schools nationally for student progress and in the top 10% of non-selective schools for student attainment in the 2024 end of KS4 exams.

The students took on various roles, including prosecution and defence lawyers, witnesses, magistrates, ushers, and legal advisors.  Their hard work and commitment were evident as they participated in two trials against different schools.

The students' performances were outstanding, demonstrating remarkable public speaking skills and confidence.  They presented their cases to an audience that included mayors, the High Sheriff of Reading, real judges and magistrates, and their proud parents.

Maiden Erlegh's impressive efforts earned them second place, securing their advancement to the regional competition in May.  We are incredibly proud of their achievements and look forward to their continued success.

In addition, 84% of students achieved 5 grade 4's and above.

We also want to say well done to our Year 10's who achieved amazing results in their Religion and Philosophy GCSE. 82% of grades were 4+, 76% 5+ and an amazing 51% 7+.  

Mr Gibson, Headteacher, said 'as my last cohort going through GCSE before I leave, I could not be prouder of their achievements. These students had their foundations of secondary education disrupted by Covid so to gain so many great grades is a phenomenal achievement. Well done Class of 2024!'.
