RE Quality Mark-Gold Award

The RE Quality Mark (REQM) has been developed by the Religious Education Council of England and Wales to celebrate high quality
religious education. It is an accreditation system designed to promote good RE in all sectors and phases of education in England, Northern Ireland and Wales.

The REQM has five strands which are assessed: ★ Learners and Learning ★ Teachers and
Teaching ★ Curriculum ★ Subject leadership ★ Continuing Professional Development.

On Tuesday 13th December 2022, an REQM assessor interviewed the subject leader, Miss Jones, and members of the Religion and Philosophy team. They also discussed the RE provision across the school with members of the senior leadership team, as well as a
Governor and Teaching Assistant. Finally, they met with four panels of students from Years 7-13, so they could share their experiences of RE at Maiden Erlegh.  Alongside these discussions, an extensive evidence form was submitted and reviewed.

We are incredibly pleased that we have been awarded the Gold RE Quality Mark, the highest accolade in this accreditation.

The school’s assessor for this award had over 20 years’ experience as an Ofsted inspector and 10 years’ as an assessor for the RE Quality Mark.  The Executive Officer of the Religious Education Council, Mr Nottage contacted Mr Gibson to say that he was able to speak to the assessor after the award had been completed, and he was pleased to hear how delighted she was to have seen the dept.  She said the Maiden Erlegh RP Dept was, “One of the best RE departments I’ve ever seen”.
