School Uniform and Equipment

Maiden Erlegh School is a uniform school.

From our experience and observations of other schools, there is no doubt that schools that maintain high standards of dress and appearance are more successful.  Students who take pride in their dress are more likely to take pride in their work.

In seeking to maintain high standards at Maiden Erlegh School, we regard the full support and co-operation of our parents as essential.

The full list of uniform requirements can be accessed here.

Our School shoe requirements can be found here.

The official outfitters for the branded items of school uniform are Stevensons.  Uniform can be purchased by visiting their shop:

Stevensons
4 Chatham Place
Reading
RG1 7AR

You can also order school uniform from Stevensons on-line. You will first need to register, but this is very straight forward and can be done by visiting their website using the following address: www.stevensons.co.uk

A full price list is available on Stevensons website.

Our school badge is the focal point of our school blazer, featuring the Maiden Erlegh Griffin and the common motto across the Maiden Erlegh Trust schools: “Qui, Veut, Peut” — If you want to, you can. This nicely sums up our approach to learning and life and reaffirms our belief that Maiden Erlegh School is a place that provides opportunity and nurtures success.

Second Hand Uniform

If you have good quality second hand uniform that could be used again by another student, we welcome this being dropped into our reception team.  We are always very keen to receive ties, which often seem to be in demand!  Thank you in anticipation of your support with this.

Help Buying Uniform

We recognise that in these difficult times that some of our families may struggle to purchase school uniform.  If you are in receipt of Pupil Premium or struggling to purchase uniform, then please contact your child’s Head of Year.  We have some uniform in our inclusion department and we will help wherever possible.

Lost Property

We have a lost property cupboard in school (currently in the reception area).  If your son or daughter has lost a piece of uniform or equipment, please encourage them to retrace their steps and check this cupboard.  We empty this cupboard at the end of each term and donate items to charity that are not collected.  Unfortunately, parents are not allowed to search classrooms, as this is a matter of safeguarding our school community.

Equipment for Learning (Y7-11)

All students are expected to have their own equipment for learning. All students are expected to have the equipment listed below contained within a transparent pencil case. This pencil case allows tutors to check the equipment of students quickly and easily. We appreciate that students may not be able to fit a scientific calculator and maths set in their transparent pencil cases, and so we are happy for these to be carried separately in their school bags.

• Pens – black/blue, green and red
• Writing pencils
• Coloured pencils
• Rubber
• Pencil sharpener
• Glue stick
• 30cm ruler
• Maths set (containing protractor, compass, set square)
• Scientific calculator – we recommend a Casio calculator fx-83GT CW or fx-85GT CW
• At least 2 highlighters
• Transparent pencil case

We recognise that some families may at this time be experiencing financial hardship.  If this is the case, or you are in receipt of Pupil Premium funding, then please contact the relevant Head of Year, if you require additional support.
